Queensland Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) Breed Guide: Tough, Tireless, Built to Work

Sep 9
1 min read

Developed in Australia to drove cattle over long distances in harsh conditions, the Queensland Heeler — more formally the Australian Cattle Dog — is one of the toughest, most work-driven breeds around.

Temperament

Alert, loyal, and hardworking. Queensland Heelers bond intensely with their people and tend to be naturally wary of strangers.

Exercise & Energy

Extensive — needs a job or serious daily activity. Boredom in this breed reliably leads to mischief.

Grooming

Minimal — a short coat needing only occasional brushing.

Health

Generally healthy; watch for hip dysplasia and deafness in some lines.

Is a Queensland Heeler Right for You?

Best for active owners with real work or activity to give this breed. Highly trainable, but needs a genuine outlet for their drive.
